Itinerary

DAY 1:

Cusco – Capuliyoc – Santa Rosa

Departure is at 4:30 am from your hotel in Cusco. We cross the Andes towards Capuliyoc, arriving around 8:30 am. After the first breakfast prepared by your chef, you will begin local expeditions in Peru to one of the legendary lost cities of the Incas, the Citadel of Choquequirao. The first part is a 4 hour descent from Capuliyoc (2950 m – 9678 ft) to our lunch spot in Chikiska (1950 m – 6398 ft). Along the way you will get your first views of the Apurimac Canyon, one of the deepest canyons in Peru. This part of the walk offers us spectacular panoramas with different landscapes, from the mountains of Peru to the dense vegetation of the cloud forest. After lunch we continue the trip for another two hours to Santa Rosa (2230 m – 7300 ft) where we will camp for the night.

After breakfast, prepare for one of the most challenging but rewarding days of these local Peru expeditions! First, walk 4 hours uphill to Marampata (2940 m – 9646 ft). Along the way, you will visit sugar cane farms where locals produce “Carazo”, a local alcoholic beverage that has been made for centuries and supplied to cities such as Cusco. Lunch is at a local house with incredible mountain and river views. After lunch we ascend for another 2 hours to Choquequirao (3050 m – 10006 feet). Choquequirao, a spectacular Inca site in the Peruvian Andes, was one of the last Inca cities built in the cloud forest and abandoned during the conquest of Peru. It could be one of the entry controls to Vilcabamba, the last capital of the Incas, in the 16th century. Today our camp offers spectacular views of the Apurimac Valley and the Peruvian Andes.

Wake up with a cup of coffee or cola tea served in your tent by your trekking team and enjoy the most spectacular sunrise in this magical place. Then continue the descent for another hour of descent and two hours of ascent to the final camp at Chikiska (1950 m – 6398 ft). It’s a perfect day to enjoy the surrounding countryside with hundreds of different flowers, birds and waterfalls in the distance.

On the last day, get up early and enjoy the last breakfast with your team. Then prepare for the final 4-hour hike to Capuliyoc. We will organize a special party, the Pachamanca Underground Barbecue, where we will have different types of vegetables, meats and fruits buried underground with hot stones. After lunch, say goodbye to all our trekking team that accompanied you on this expedition. You’ll then travel by private transport to the Saywite archaeological site: a large, mysterious rock believed to represent the area’s complex irrigation system. You have plenty of time to explore the area. You will then return to Cusco and be dropped off at your hotel around 6:00 p.m.
