DAY 1:

Cusco – Tambomachay – Qenko Village

This is where you start the hike to Machu Picchu! The first part begins with a 4-hour hike to our lunch spot at Lake Qoricocha at 3,700 m (12,139 ft). You’ll pass beautiful lakes and local communities, and see numerous llamas, alpacas, and birds along the way. Lunch is served by the lake. Then continue for another 3 hours, gradually ascending and descending until you reach the town of Qenko, beautifully located in the Peruvian Andes at (3,800 m/12,467 ft). Here you will spend the night. Qenko is a small town with a few residents who survive and make a living mainly from agriculture, growing potatoes and beans and raising llamas, alpacas and sheep. The Inca Empire built this magnificent archaeological complex more than 500 years ago. The ancient citadel includes agricultural terraces, temples, warehouses, water canals, large plazas and spectacular views of the Sacred Valley, the Urubamba River and the Peruvian Andes.

You will have plenty of time to explore and enjoy the beauty and energy of this magnificent Inca site. After exploring Huchuy Qosqo, you’ll descend another hour to Lamay, where your hiking guide will be waiting for you to enjoy a delicious picnic.

After lunch, our private bus will take you to Ollantaytambo, “the last living Inca city”, also known as the “Native American Capital of the World”. Explore the ancient streets of this Inca city, continuously inhabited since the 14th century. After dinner at a local restaurant in Ollantaytambo, we will take the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) at 7:00 pm to spend the night in a hotel.
