Our day trip to the South Valley of Cusco is an experience not to be missed. It will only take you about 5 hours. where citadels such as Tipón and Pikillaqta are located.
Our tour starts at 8:00 am. Our transportation will take us 40 minutes southwest of the city of Cusco to reach Tipón, known for its agricultural terraces, irrigation systems and Inca architecture, part of the Qhapaq Ñan route.
Then we travel to the Pikillaqta district which is considered one of the most famous and best preserved pre-Inca cities in Peru. Finally, we finish the tour with a visit to Andahuaylillas and the Sistine Chapel of America, MONUMENTAL HERITAGE, where we will find beautiful works of art.
To finish, we return to your hotel in the city of Cusco where our tour ends around 1:00 p.m.
Our tour begins at 8:00 am when we pick you up from your hotel. We will go in our transportation for 40 minutes southwest of Cusco.
The tour begins with a visit to Tipón, which is part of the Qhapaq Ñan Highway and is located 25 km from the city of Cusco. The Inca site of Tipón, also known as the “Water Temple”, features a complex of agricultural terraces, long stairs and water channels carved into the stone. It was built with the only hydraulic engineering technology that amazes visitors and attracts some of the world’s best scientists every year.
Its thirteen terraces are surrounded by perfectly polished stone walls. One of its main attractions is the royal complex; Tipón was a large sanctuary where the worship of water was practiced.
Below, we visit the archaeological center of Pikillacta, located 30 km southwest of the city of Cusco. The Inca site of Pikillacta, covering an area of 50 hectares, is today considered one of the most famous and best preserved pre-Inca cities of the Wari culture. The word PIKILLACTA comes from two Quechua words: PIKI (small or flea) and LLACTA (city) The translation could be “small town” or “flea town”
During your visit we will be able to learn about the pre-Inca stone walls of one of the most important cities of the Wari culture, known for its well planned and organized streets. As the last stop we will visit the traditional village of Andahuaylillas, located 36 kilometers from Cusco.
Andahuaylillas is part of the Andean Baroque Route and we will visit its incredible chapel, the Church of San Pedro Apóstol de Andahuaylillas, also known as the Sistine Chapel of the Americas due to its beautiful carpentry, exquisite paintings and colonial decorations that reach to the ground in ceiling.
Here we can see the typical art in Cusco and Peru which creates a strong visual impact inside. One of the curiosities of this temple is that in its baptismal chapel there is an arch with the inscription “I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen”, written in LATIN, SPANISH, QUECHUA, AYMARA. and PUQUINA. LANGUAGES. Finally we return to the city of Cusco, where our tour ends around 1:00 p.m.
